Today we get a request to install SQL server reporting services for 4 of 8 of the instances on a server.
As usual we pick our sql 2012 dump and start installing. When we reached to Add feature page of installation we were not able to see 4 of 8 instances in drop down as in screen shot
After investigating we realize that the instances on which we have to install reporting services are SQL server 2008 R2 where as rest of four instances are SQL server 2012.
And when we ran SQL 2012 setup it didn't pick 2008R2 instances as it cant add feature to lower version. So to install reporting services we ran SQL 2008 R2 setup
